: Reality and Expectations
Abstract
Abstract:
In contemporary Arab thought, civil society is defined as “the set of institutions, events and activities that are intermediary between the family, as the basic unit of social structure on the one hand, and the state and its institutions of an official nature on the other.
Civil society in Libya is very much emerging, and it is now at a critical juncture in its development history, which makes it stand at a crossroads. In addition to the legacy of the inclusive state and the difficulty of the country, the role of civil society in order to be effective and supportive of the democratic process. It requires and requires deep legal and institutional reforms for the various aspects of the civil system, including the need to review the conditions for the establishment of civil society organizations and review the way civil society organizations work and conditions of membership and funding to play a real role in the promotion of civil society.
In light of the recent changes in the country, the types and roles of civil society organizations have emerged in Libya. The role of that parallel society in supporting the democratic transformation has arisen. Are there any indicators to measure that role and what are the difficulties it faces in fulfilling its role?
These and other questions led us to discuss this issue as a modest attempt to determine the role of civil society in Libya and the problems it is going through.
